Chile advances infrastructure projects in Talcahuano and Santiago

Chilean authorities are advancing two distinct infrastructure projects aimed at improving connectivity and urban mobility.

The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) has launched a tender for a study valued at approximately $1.198 billion pesos to evaluate the feasibility of a concession for a 6.5-kilometer stretch of Avenida Costanera and Avenida Gran Bretaña. This project, located in the Hualpén and Talcahuano communes, seeks to connect the Puente Industrial with the Ruta Interportuaria. The goal is to segregate heavy cargo traffic from urban flow to reduce congestion and accidents caused by the high volume of trucks moving between the ports of Coronel and Talcahuano.

In Santiago, the Metropolitan Regional Government has concluded the bidding process for the ‘Habilitación Paseo Urbano Fluvial Lecho Río Mapocho’ project, commonly known as ‘Mapocho Pedaleable’. The initiative aims to transform a 5.2-kilometer section of the Mapocho River into an urban corridor for non-motorized transport, spanning from Estación Mapocho to Costanera Center. Five concrete proposals have been submitted for the construction of this urban fluvial walkway.
