Chile advances SME support with new Pro‑Pyme law proposal and reconstruction legislation

Chile’s Subsecretary of Economy and Small Business, Karlfranz Koehler, presented a series of measures aimed at strengthening micro, small and medium enterprises. He cited the results of worktables coordinated by Icare, Grande Pyme and the German‑Chilean Chamber (AHK Chile) and highlighted the pending National Reconstruction Law in the Senate as a key growth driver.

Koehler announced that a Pro Pyme draft law will be introduced to Congress in the second half of the year, alongside a “Statute Pyme 2.0”. The proposals include extending the deferral of VAT payments, encouraging timely supplier payments, and simplifying the process for obtaining provisional patents so new businesses can invoice sooner. The ministry plans to examine the cumulative regulatory load on SMEs and adjust rules that disproportionately affect smaller firms, with implementation expected through agencies such as Corfo and Sercotec.
