A severe frontal weather system battered Chile's Atacama and Coquimbo regions, causing heavy rain, floods and landslides. Direct damages have been estimated between US$400 million and US$500 million, while the total cost to rebuild infrastructure could reach up to US$700 million. The government is assessing activation of the constitutional 2 % emergency fund and parliamentarians are demanding that Coquimbo and Atacama be included in the national reconstruction fund.

Public services were disrupted. Approximately 4,000 electricity customers across nine regions lost power, including 1,286 in Coquimbo. Entel extended a seven‑day suspension of service cuts for customers with unpaid bills in the hardest‑hit communes. The water utility Aguas del Valle confirmed that there is no restriction on water consumption and that water meets sanitary standards.

Education was affected nationwide. The Ministry of Education suspended classes in five communes of Coquimbo and Atacama from July 27‑29, and the entire Ñuble region also halted schooling on July 27 as a precaution. Local education authorities began reopening schools in Coquimbo on July 27 after safety checks.

The police (PDI) have located 17 of 20 people reported missing in the emergency, while three remain unaccounted for. The storm left at least 13 dead, destroyed more than 1,500 homes and isolated roughly 40,000 residents in the north‑central corridor.
