Chile and Peru report significant shifts in agricultural and mining exports
Chilean agricultural exports are showing strong performance, with fruit exports reaching approximately US$8,000 million as of July 31. Avocado production has reached a 15-year high of 265,000 tons, driven by improved productivity rather than increased land use. The industry projects a further record in the 2026-2027 season, with an estimated 285,000 tons.
In Peru, regional exports are heavily concentrated in mining-intensive areas. Five regions—Arequipa, Ica, Áncash, Puno, and Moquegua—accounted for 57.4% of the country's total interior exports, totaling US$43,771 million. Arequipa led with US$5.66 billion in exports, primarily driven by copper, gold, and lead.
Peruvian blueberry exports have also seen significant shifts in market distribution. Total blueberry exports reached 53,465 tons, a 74% increase over the previous season. However, the market share is shifting: the United States and Europe now capture roughly 68% of these exports, while shipments to China have declined by 20% compared to the previous year.
