Chile and Venezuela Formalize Consular Relations

Chile and Venezuela have officially restored consular relations after exchanging diplomatic notes. Chilean Director General of Consular Affairs Hernán Núñez and Venezuelan Vice‑Minister of Latin America Mauricio Rodríguez signed the notes, and Núñez was received by Venezuelan Foreign Minister Félix Plasencia. Chilean Foreign Minister Francisco Pérez Mackenna described the move as a milestone that will ensure protection and consular services for citizens of both countries and pave the way for a broader renewal of bilateral ties.

The agreement is presented as the first step toward fully re‑establishing diplomatic links that were previously suspended, aiming to facilitate dialogue on issues of mutual interest for the peoples of Chile and Venezuela.
