Venezuela normalizes diplomacy with Peru and Chile

Overview

Venezuela has continued diplomatic re‑engagement begun in 2024 with its neighbours. After a two‑year suspension triggered by Chile’s concerns over the transparency of Venezuela’s 2024 elections, Chile and Venezuela announced on 30 July 2026 the re‑activation of consular services as the first phase of a joint roadmap to normalize ties. The coordinated efforts illustrate a broader regional shift from suspension to engagement, with consular reopening serving as the initial stage of a comprehensive normalization agenda.
