Chile announces 100 Líderes Mayores 2026 honorees

The sixth edition of the ‘100 Líderes Mayores 2026’ has been announced, an initiative organized by Conecta Mayor UC, El Mercurio, and the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. The program recognizes individuals between the ages of 75 and 110 who actively contribute to the development of Chile across various sectors.

This year’s selection saw a significant increase in engagement, with 4,448 nominations received from across the country. Notable honorees include former President Michelle Bachelet and Dr. Fernando Zegers, an emeritus professor at Universidad Diego Portales and a global authority in reproductive medicine. Dr. Zegers was recognized in the ‘Healthy Living and Sports’ category for his extensive career, which includes over 30 years as a consultant for the WHO.

Other recognized figures include Eduardo Holzapfel Hoces, an emeritus professor and expert in water resources and sustainable agriculture. The initiative aims to shift societal perspectives by highlighting that the elderly population remains a vital, active, and transformative force within their communities.
