Chilean 100 Líderes Mayores 2026 initiative

Overview

The sixth edition of the ‘100 Líderes Mayores 2026’ initiative has been announced in Chile. Organized by Fundación Conecta Mayor UC, El Mercurio, and the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, the program recognizes 100 individuals aged 75 to 110 who contribute to the country’s development.

The initiative received 4,448 nominations across five categories: Sciences and Humanities; Culture and Arts; Economy and Traditional Trades; Community Labor and Politics; and Healthy Living and Sports. The program seeks to change societal views on aging by showcasing seniors as active, transformative forces in their communities.

Recognized individuals include former President Michelle Bachelet, Dr. Fernando Zegers, a reproductive medicine authority and former WHO consultant, and Eduardo Holzapfel Hoces, an expert in water resources. Other notable honorees include journalist Faride Zerán Chelech and folklorist Mario Isidro Moreno.
