Chile announces 100 Senior Leaders for 2026

The sixth edition of the ‘100 Líderes Mayores 2026’ initiative has been announced, recognizing 100 individuals aged 75 to 110 who actively contribute to the development of Chile. Organized by Fundación Conecta Mayor UC, El Mercurio, and the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, the program received 4,448 nominations from across the country.

The honorees are categorized into five areas: Sciences and Humanities; Culture and Arts; Economy and Traditional Trades; Community Labor and Politics; and Healthy Living and Sports. The initiative aims to shift societal perspectives regarding aging by highlighting how seniors continue to lead, innovate, and transform their communities.

Notable recipients include Faride Zerán Chelech, a 2007 National Journalism Prize winner and former Vice-Rector of the University of Chile, and Mario Isidro Moreno, a writer and folklorist recognized for his work in preserving regional identity and heritage.
