Chile announces rent subsidies and Fonasa refund deadlines

Chilean authorities have announced several social benefit updates. The Ministry of Housing and Urbanism (Minvu) will open applications for a rent subsidy specifically for people over 60 years old or those with a registered disability. The application period runs from September 8 to October 8, 2026, via the Minvu website or Serviu offices. The subsidy can cover up to 90% of monthly rent for eligible participants.

Separately, Fonasa has set a deadline of September 6 for individuals and employers to request refunds for excess social security contributions. This mass refund process addresses duplicate payments or payments that exceed the legal taxable limit. Fonasa reports that approximately 6.19 billion pesos are available to be returned to over 70,000 people, including 65,304 contributors and 4,765 employers.
