Chile announces US$200 million investment to boost construction employment

Chilean Minister of Housing and Urbanism, Iván Poduje, has announced a US$200 million investment aimed at reactivating employment within the construction sector by the end of the year. The funds are intended for new housing projects, street paving, and the development of public infrastructure such as parks, sports fields, and social centers, with a particular focus on regional areas.

Following a meeting with the new leadership of the Chilean Chamber of Construction (CChC), led by President Raimundo Rencoret, the Ministry and the industry group established a collaborative work protocol. This agreement includes frequent coordination between regional authorities and the CChC to monitor housing initiatives and accelerate project delivery through subsidy mechanisms like the DS-27 program. The initiative is part of a broader economic recovery strategy to address unemployment and increase homeownership.
