Chile appoints Felipe Orellana as new Consul General in Caracas

Chile has appointed career diplomat Felipe Orellana as the new Consul General in Caracas, Venezuela. Orellana is expected to begin his duties in the Venezuelan capital within the coming weeks.

The appointment is part of a broader effort to reactivate consular relations between Chile and Venezuela, following a joint declaration on July 30 that established a roadmap for the progressive normalization of bilateral relations. Chilean Foreign Minister Francisco Pérez Mackenna described the move as a concrete step toward ensuring that consulates in both Caracas and Puerto Ordaz are fully operational to serve Chilean citizens in Venezuela.

Orellana is a lawyer and graduate of the Diplomatic Academy with extensive consular experience. His previous roles include serving as Consul General in Montreal, Canada, and holding various positions in Chilean embassies in Thailand and Australia. Most recently, he served as head of the United Nations Department within the Multilateral Affairs Division.
