Chile appoints new regional prosecutors in Tarapacá and Ñuble
María Alejandra Jorquera was sworn in as an adjunct prosecutor for the Alto Hospicio commune in the Tarapacá region. The ceremony was led by National Prosecutor Ángel Valencia and attended by Regional Prosecutor Virginia Aravena, marking a reinforcement of criminal investigation capacity in a high‑operation area of northern Chile.
Nayalet Mansilla, the first woman to serve as regional prosecutor of Ñuble, will step down on 8 August. She will assume a new role as adjunct prosecutor in the Metropolitan East office on 10 August, focusing on sexual crimes, which she says have risen sharply since the pandemic. Mansilla highlighted challenges linked to migration and the need for specialized police units, reflecting broader changes in the regional justice system.
