Chile-Argentina Mining Cooperation Advances with Treaty Ratification and Regional Initiatives

Chile’s Antofagasta region officially launched the 2026 "Mes de la Minería" on 6 August, a month‑long program highlighting mining’s contribution to employment, innovation and national growth. AIA president Marko Razmilic and Ministry officials emphasized the sector as the engine for Chile’s economic acceleration and called for sustainable, socially valuable mining.

At a binational mining seminar in Chile, Puerto Ventanas S.A. presented its 35‑year experience in bulk‑cargo handling and promoted the Los Libertadores corridor as a key link for Chile‑Argentina mineral trade. Participants from both nations stressed the need for modern, multimodal logistics to boost cross‑border exports.

Chile and Argentina are set to ratify the 1997 mining treaty on 7 July, adding new provisions that will harmonise customs, tax and regulatory procedures for mines operating along the shared frontier. The agreement aims to attract further investment by allowing companies to operate under a single legal framework across the two countries.
