Chile completes removal of hazardous chemicals from Arica port

The Chilean government concluded a four‑month operation on Friday, 27 June, transferring all chemical precursors that had been stored for five years at the Port of Arica to an authorized disposal facility in Santiago. The operation, financed with emergency funds from the Subsecretariat of the Interior, was coordinated among the Regional Presidential Delegation, specialized agencies and transport institutions, and adhered to strict safety protocols.

Regional Presidential Delegate Cristián Sayes Maldonado said the removal eliminates a significant risk to people, the environment and port logistics, noting it was carried out under President José Antonio Kast’s mandate and demonstrates the government’s commitment to community safety and responsible risk management.
