Chile confirms third imported measles case of 2026

Chile's Ministry of Health and the Public Health Institute have confirmed the third imported case of measles in the country for 2026. The case involves an 18-year-old woman from the Metropolitan Region who recently traveled to Peru.

The patient, who had no record of measles-rubella vaccination, has completed her isolation period and is in good health. Health authorities are currently conducting active epidemiological surveillance and contact tracing to identify individuals who may have been exposed to the highly contagious virus and to prevent further transmission.

Chile currently maintains its status of “elimination of measles” as granted by the Pan American Health Organization. The last local transmission in the country was recorded in 1992, while the previous imported case occurred in February 2026.
