Chile energy seminar addresses electrical flexibility and storage
The fourth edition of the seminar ‘Electrical Flexibility in Chile: Operation and Regulation for an Efficient Transition’ was held at the Universidad Católica, bringing together public and private sector leaders to discuss the country's energy evolution.
Organized by EDF Power Solutions and the Centro de Energía UC, the event focused on how the Chilean electrical system can effectively utilize rapidly increasing energy storage capacity. Key participants, including Energy Undersecretary Hugo Briones, addressed the operational and regulatory adjustments necessary to ensure a secure, resilient, and competitive energy matrix.
Representatives from the Ministry of Energy and the National Energy Commission reviewed the significant growth in installed storage capacity and the steps being taken to transition toward an offer-based market. Technical experts from the Coordinador Eléctrico Nacional also highlighted the need for adjustments in the complementary services market to maximize storage use and foster competition among renewable technologies.
