Chilean energy storage and grid integration development

Overview

In late July 2026, the Chilean Association of Renewable Energy and Storage (ACERA) presented a technical proposal to improve the operation of battery storage systems within the National Electric System. This proposal, resulting from a five-month study, highlighted that Chile has over 10 GW of storage projects in operation, under construction, or in development.

By mid-August 2026, discussions expanded to include the fourth edition of the seminar ‘Electrical Flexibility in Chile: Operation and Regulation for an Efficient Transition’. This event focused on the regulatory and operational adjustments required to manage increasing storage capacity. Participants from the Ministry of Energy and the National Energy Commission addressed the transition toward an offer-based market and the need for adjustments in the complementary services market to maximize storage utility and competition.
