Chilean regions allocate billions of pesos to sports facilities and caregiver support

Municipalities in Chile are investing heavily in community sports and social programs. In Coquimbo, the council approved a $342 million peso plan to renovate three neighborhood fields, adding lighting, accessibility features and new equipment. La Serena will expand a SENADIS‑funded caregiver assistance program with a $20 million peso budget for home visits, emotional support and tools to relieve families caring for persons with severe disabilities. In the Santiago‑area commune of Buin, the Subsecretary for Regional Development inaugurated public‑space projects worth more than $402 million pesos, including a 900 sqm pumptrack with LED lighting and upgrades to Plaza Villa Estación with modern paving and exercise stations. The Valparaíso regional government approved a package exceeding $2.6 billion pesos to fund 19 youth athletes from the Team Valpo, 28 community cultural projects and a university health‑research platform that will deliver around 10,000 specialized medical services. Across these initiatives, local authorities aim to improve health, safety and community cohesion through upgraded sports infrastructure and targeted social assistance.
