Colombia extradites Tren de Aragua leaders Larry Changa and Botija to Chile

President Gustavo Petro signed Resolution 245 authorizing the extradition of Larry Amaury Álvarez Núñez, known as “Larry Changa”, a co‑founder of the transnational criminal group Tren de Aragua. Changa was captured in July 2024 in Quindío, Colombia, and is being sent to Chile to face charges of kidnapping and organized crime. The extradition was conditioned on guarantees that he will not be subjected to torture, cruel treatment or life‑long imprisonment, and it follows a Supreme Court ruling approving the transfer.

In a separate but related operation, Colombian authorities handed over Dayonis Orozco, alias “Botija”, another senior Tren de Aragua figure, to Chile. Orozco was detained in April 2024 after a coordinated effort involving Chile, Peru and Colombia and was extradited on 2 July 2026 to face a homicide charge for the killing of Carabineros officer Emmanuel Sánchez Soto. Both transfers underscore intensified judicial cooperation against the gang’s activities across South America.
