Chile rolls out extensive winter vacation programs

Across Chile, regional authorities and cultural organisations have launched a series of free winter‑vacation activities for children and families. The O’Higgins regional culture office offers workshops, murals, theater performances and up‑cycling labs in Rancagua, Machalí, Nancagua, Pichidegua, Marchigüe and Pichilemu. In Santiago, the “Acciona vacaciones” programme runs art and creativity workshops for ages 7‑17, while the municipal “Llueve cultura en Quilicura” festival (June 25‑July 5) provides theatre, a K‑pop show, an exotic‑animal exhibition and the city’s first ice‑skating rink. Talca’s municipality opens sports facilities and heritage tours, and the Fundación Victor Jara runs a week of free arts workshops for children in Santiago’s Victor Jara stadium. Quinchao’s interactive astronomy exhibit “Travesía Solar” tours the community centre, and Antofagasta’s sports corporation conducts a city‑wide survey to shape a multi‑year sports plan. Happyland promotes holiday gift‑card contests, while the Santiago metropolitan area enforces a vehicle‑restriction schedule on 24 June to curb pollution. The Ministry of Transport also issues travel‑safety advice for winter road trips. A national holiday is observed on 29 June (San Pedro y San Pablo). LATAM Airlines begins direct Quito‑Santiago flights in December 2026, restoring a non‑stop route for tourists and business travellers. Together, these initiatives aim to provide free, diverse cultural, sporting and recreational options throughout the winter break.
