Santiago Metro unveils mural honoring 30 women engineers

To mark International Women’s Day in Engineering, Metro de Santiago installed a mural at the Universidad de Chile station highlighting 30 female engineers from institutions across Chile. The artwork, part of the national “El Viaje de Ser Ingenieras 2026” campaign, aims to inspire girls and young women to pursue STEM careers.

The inauguration brought together the honored engineers, university officials, representatives of women‑in‑STEM organisations and Metro executives. project manager Ximena Schultz emphasized that diverse engineering teams better serve a varied society, noting, “the world is diverse and we have to make it inclusive; having women design it is essential.” The mural will be complemented by additional panels at other Metro stations and an exhibit at EFE Sur’s Concepción station, extending the visibility of female engineering role models throughout the capital’s transit network.
