Necochea, Argentina faces dense fog while Chile issues heat spikes and air‑quality alerts

A dense fog bank will cover Necochea and Quequén on Friday 26 June, reducing visibility to near‑zero in the early morning. Authorities advise drivers to slow down, use low beams and keep a safe distance. Temperatures will range from 2 °C at night to a high of 14 °C during the day, with winds shifting from north to northwest and gusts up to 50 km/h.

Earlier forecasts for the region warned of extreme cold on Wednesday 24 June, with minima of 4‑5 °C, strong southerly winds and gusts reaching 59 km/h, followed by a cold, unstable day on Thursday 25 June and further precipitation chances on Friday.

In central Chile, the Centre for Advanced Studies in Arid Zones (CEAZA) warned that inland valleys of the Coquimbo Region will see unusually high winter temperatures on 25‑26 June, with Illapel expected to reach 25 °C and nearby towns ranging from 21 °C to 30 °C.

Simultaneously, several Chilean regions have declared environmental alerts because of poor ventilation, low temperatures and increased use of wood heating. The Maule communes of Talcá and Maule, the Curicó‑Romeral area, and the Metropolitan Region have imposed restrictions on visible smoke emissions from 18:00 to 23:59 and bans on open‑fire stoves and certain heaters. The Metropolitan alert also includes vehicle‑restriction measures during peak‑hour periods. Officials stress the need for certified heating equipment and citizen cooperation to improve air quality.
