Chile issues flood alerts across regions amid rising river levels

The Servicio Nacional de Prevención y Respuesta ante Desastres (Senapred) has activated multiple flood alerts in Chile as heavy rains raise river flows. A red alert was declared for the Río Palos in the communes of Molina and Curicó, replacing a previously issued yellow alert. In the Ñuble region, a red alert was issued for San Fabián and Ñiquén after the Río Perquilauquén reached the red threshold. Several yellow alerts were also announced: Arauco (Río Pichilo), Curarrehue (Río Trancura), the rivers Perquilauquén, Niblinto and Chillán affecting communes in Punilla and Ñuble, and the Chillán river in Pinto, Coihueco, Chillán and Chillán Viejo. The alerts are coordinated with regional presidential delegations and have mobilised emergency resources. Preventive measures include the evacuation of ten homes in Doñihue due to a rise in the Río Cachapoal, with police, municipal and Senapred teams monitoring the situation. These actions respond to a new front‑range weather system bringing rain, snow and strong winds across the country.
