Chile issues red flood alerts for rivers in Maule and Ñuble regions

Chile’s National Emergency Prevention and Response Service (SENAPRED) issued a red alert at 05:55 on 2 August for the communes of Cauquenes and Parral in the Maule Region after the Perquilauquén River at the Quella gauge reached the red threshold reported by the General Directorate of Water (DGA). The alert enables mobilization of all available resources to mitigate flooding and urges residents to stay away from rivers and streams.

On the same day the DGA also declared a red alert for the Lonquén River in Trehuaco, Ñuble Region, while issuing yellow alerts for the Itata River in Balsa Nueva Aldea and Coelemu and for the Coyanco stream. Eleven other river stations in Ñuble were placed under blue alerts. The agencies continue to monitor water levels and coordinate emergency actions across the affected areas.
