Chile issues wind warning and vehicle restrictions in Santiago region

The Chilean Meteorological Directorate (DMC) issued a wind advisory for June 9‑10, forecasting gusts of up to 70 km/h across five regions, including the Metropolitan Region, O’Higgins, Maule, Ñuble and Biobío. The alert covers coastal and mountainous zones and is linked to an approaching frontal system.

The Presidential Delegation for the Metropolitan Region declared a preventive environmental alert for Monday, June 8, citing poor ventilation conditions in the Santiago basin. Authorities warned that the Atmospheric Pollution Potential Index will register a “regular” level and reiterated bans on wood‑fuel heating and agricultural burning. Vehicle circulation restrictions were also detailed, applying to cars, motorcycles and buses based on green‑plate status and license‑plate endings within specified corridors and hours.
