Chile keeps air‑quality alerts in O’Higgins and Metropolitan regions on June 14

The presidential delegation for the O’Higgins region confirmed that an environmental alert remains in force for Sunday, 14 June, covering 17 communes in the central valley. Officials warned that poor ventilation and high concentrations of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) pose health risks, especially for the elderly, pregnant women and children. Restrictions include a ban on wood‑burning heaters and stoves, a requirement that sports activities be held indoors at moderate intensity, and the use of only certified pellet heaters. The decree will be enforced by the regional health authority, which has opened a WhatsApp line for citizen reports.

In the Metropolitan Region, authorities declared a fourth pre‑emergency environmental alert for the same day, again citing unfavorable ventilation and elevated PM2.5 levels. The measure maintains bans on wood‑based heating devices (except certified pellets) and agricultural burning, and imposes vehicle‑circulation limits based on license‑plate digits for both commercial and private vehicles. These restrictions are enforced jointly by the regional environment ministry, municipal officials and police forces.
