Chile launches 2026 Casen survey to measure poverty and living conditions

The Chilean Ministry of Social Development and Family has launched the “Cuando tú respondes, Chile responde” campaign to encourage participation in the 2026 National Socioeconomic Characterization Survey (Casen). The survey, which will be conducted between November 1, 2026, and January 31, 2027, aims to measure poverty levels and assess household conditions regarding health, education, housing, employment, and income.

In the Arica and Parinacota region, officials plan to visit 3,712 homes, while in Magallanes, the survey will cover 3,506 dwellings across ten communes. Nationally, the survey targets 111,080 households to provide data for public policy decisions. The fieldwork will be managed by the University of Chile’s Microdata Center using in-person interviews via tablets.

Authorities emphasized that participation is confidential and will not affect existing social benefits or the Social Registry of Households. To ensure security, surveyors will wear uniforms and carry credentials featuring a QR code for identity verification. Officials reminded citizens that surveyors will never request money, bank passwords, or ClaveUnica credentials.
