Chile launches early cancer detection program

The Chilean Ministry of Health has launched a Universal Early Cancer Detection Strategy within primary healthcare. The initiative focuses on gastric and colorectal cancers, targeting 28 communes, including Chiguayante and Curanilahue, during the second half of the year.

With an investment of approximately 600 million pesos, the program utilizes non-invasive tests to improve diagnostic speed and reduce waiting lists for endoscopies and colonoscopies. Positive results will trigger specific medical guarantees (GES N°70 or N°80). The government aims to expand the program to an additional 80 municipalities by 2027 to address the high annual mortality rates associated with these pathologies.
