Chile launches employment initiative to address labor gaps and gender disparity
Chile is addressing labor shortages and gender disparities in technical sectors through new initiatives and industry analysis. Data from SOFOFA highlights a significant gender gap in key industries: while female labor participation is 53% nationally, women represent only 26% of the manufacturing workforce, 12% in mining, and 8% in construction.
To combat employment challenges, the Confederación de la Producción y del Comercio (CPC), INACAP, and Empresas por Chile have launched ‘Emplea X Chile’. This initiative aims to facilitate 20,000 hires by connecting companies with talent across the country through a digital platform utilizing artificial intelligence.
Experts emphasize that bridging the gap requires earlier engagement between companies and technical-professional education to ensure women and younger generations are aware of career paths in industrial sectors.
