Chile mining firms showcase gender‑equity programmes on International Women’s Day

Chile’s regional gender‑equity officials highlighted women’s growing role in mining during two visits. Pamela Reyes, the Seremi of Women and Gender Equality for the Valparaíso region, toured Codelco Ventanas, reviewing the company's gender programme, new lactation facilities and the increase of female staff to 13.27% of the workforce. She noted, “Chile has become a world reference in women’s participation in large‑scale mining (24% of the workforce).”

Later, regional authorities—including the Seremi of Energy, Carlos Ferrada, and the Seremi of Women and Gender Equality, Greissy Cofré—visited Minera Pampa Camarones to mark International Women’s Day. They met with female employees, observed that women now make up about 13% of the mine’s staff, and reaffirmed the need for policies that narrow gender gaps and expand women’s access to technical and leadership roles in the sector.
