Chile Ministry of Public Works launches infrastructure projects in Los Lagos

The Chilean Ministry of Public Works (MOP) has begun executing the ‘Plan Chile Despega’ initiative in the Los Lagos Region to stimulate economic growth and employment. The first contract awarded under this plan involves a 103 million peso investment for a borehole project for the Peñasmo Rural Sanitary Service in Calbuco.

The regional infrastructure deployment will span the provinces of Osorno, Llanquihue, Chiloé, and Palena. Projects are categorized into several technical areas, including rural sanitary services (water treatment and purification), road conservation and bridge improvements, maritime infrastructure, airport improvements, and water monitoring stations.

Simultaneously, regional deputies from various political sectors have issued a joint declaration calling on the central government to protect public investment in Los Lagos. The lawmakers expressed concern regarding potential budget cuts and emphasized the need for a balanced distribution of resources to address regional challenges in connectivity, employment, and infrastructure.
