Chile police detain key suspect in million-dollar Iquique jewelry robbery

Carabineros' specialized unit OS‑9 Tarapacá, in coordination with the regional prosecutor's office, arrested a 25‑year‑old man suspected of providing driver and lookout services for a violent robbery of a high‑value residence in Iquique’s southern sector. The suspect was seized on a public street in Iquique after police matched his identity through camera footage and intelligence work. A search of his home recovered solid gold bracelets and other jewelry stolen in the attack, which were photographed for later return to their owners. The detainee, who has a prior criminal record, was transferred to a medical facility for a health check and then placed under the jurisdiction of the Iquique Guarantee Court. Prosecutors will present the gathered evidence to request maximum precautionary measures while investigations continue to locate the remaining members of the criminal group.
