Chile police launch night operation in Chiloé and seize luxury cars in Vitacura

The Presidential Delegation of Chiloé led an inter‑sectoral police operation on the night of July 4, 2026, deploying Carabineros, the Police Investigation Directorate (PDI) and naval forces across the coastal communes of Dalcahue, Castro and Chonchi. The joint land and maritime checks resulted in 108 identity verifications, 70 vehicle inspections, four arrests (two for outstanding judicial orders and two for drug‑law violations) and two citations.

In Santiago’s affluent Vitacura commune, authorities conducted a large‑scale enforcement sweep on July 3, 2026, targeting vehicles with expired plates or missing front plates. More than 30 luxury cars were impounded and three drivers were arrested for falsifying documentation, according to Carabineros and municipal inspectors. The operation reflects a broader effort to curb evasion tactics among high‑income motorists and to enforce Chilean traffic law more uniformly.
