Chile police seize 47 fentanyl ampoules in Ovalle and place trafficker in preventive detention
Carabineros' OS‑7 unit in Ovalle, Chile, seized nearly fifty ampoules of fentanyl – a total of 47 ampoules equivalent to about 235 ml – after raiding a residence linked to a 29‑year‑old male suspect. The operation also uncovered two bottles of remifentanil, 37 g of marijuana, 10 g of additional marijuana, and more than 1.1 million Chilean pesos in cash. The suspect was arrested, and a woman was detained for assaulting authorities during the raid.
A judge granted preventive detention, citing the danger to public safety. Police stated the seizure prevents a dangerous supply from reaching the community, with one officer noting, “Estamos hablando de casi cincuenta ampollas de una droga altamente peligrosa que logramos sacar de circulación.” The case highlights growing concern over fentanyl trafficking in Chile, a substance linked to thousands of overdoses abroad.
