Chile President José Antonio Kast visits Paraguay for Mercosur summit

Chile’s President José Antonio Kast arrived in Asunción to lead a delegation of more than 25 officials at the LXVIII Mercosur summit. He met Paraguayan President Santiago Peña, attended plenary sessions of the bloc and took part in a protocol lunch with regional leaders.

Kast also held bilateral talks with Germany’s foreign minister Johann Wadephul, Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Ecuador’s President Daniel Noboa. Discussions focused on deepening trade ties, advancing the proposed bio‑oceanic corridor linking the Atlantic and Pacific, and strengthening cooperation against trans‑national organized crime. Chile, while an observer to Mercosur, emphasized its role in promoting regional security and facilitating commercial routes.

The visit underscored Chile’s push for greater integration, investment flow and coordinated security measures across South America.
