Chile proposes one-time $30,000 per child benefit
A legislative project in Chile is advancing through Congress that proposes a one-time economic benefit of $30,000 per child to assist vulnerable households facing rising living costs.
The proposed benefit is intended as a single payment rather than a recurring monthly subsidy. The total amount for a household would be calculated based on the number of eligible children. For instance, a family with two qualifying children would receive $60,000, while a family with three would receive $90,000.
Eligibility criteria target children between the ages of 0 and 13 who belong to households within the most vulnerable 80% of the Social Household Registry (RSH). The government has also proposed expanding the scope to include foster families and pregnant women at the time of birth. If passed, the distribution is expected to be automatic for those meeting the requirements, though the project must still complete the legislative process before payments can be scheduled.
