Chile shuts down illegal gambling venues in Antofagasta and Coquimbo
Authorities in Antofagasta carried out a night‑time operation involving the municipal security directorate, Carabineros and the PDI. The raid closed three illegal mini‑casinos, seized more than 250 contraband cigarettes and detained a foreign citizen for smuggling. Citations were issued for violations of the tobacco law and the case was handed to the Public Ministry.
In Coquimbo, a coordinated police‑municipal action seized 90 gambling machines and confiscated roughly $6.12 million in cash from a clandestine gaming hall. An adult was arrested, and the equipment was taken to municipal custody. The seizure brings the total number of illegal machines removed in the region to over 500, reflecting an ongoing crackdown on unauthorized gambling across northern Chile.
