Chile winter travel trends favor nature, culture and family outings

A study by Tur.com, the tourism platform of Copec, examined thousands of searches made in early June and identified the ten experiences most sought after by Chileans for the 2026 winter holidays. The findings show a clear shift away from traditional ski resorts toward nature‑based, cultural and family‑friendly activities. The most popular option is Parque Tricao in the Valparaíso Region, praised for its large free‑flight aviary and easy access from Santiago. Urban sightseeing at Sky Costanera, hot‑air‑balloon flights over the Salar de Atacama at sunrise, and astronomical tours with astrophotography in San Pedro de Atacama rank high among adults and young travelers. Longer trips include a two‑day tour of Rapa Nui, a visit to the UNESCO‑listed Sewell mining camp, and coastal excursions to Viña del Mar and Valparaíso. Wellness‑focused outings such as the Termas Cochamó in Los Lagos and day trips to the El Yeso reservoir and Cajón del Maipo also feature prominently.

A companion guide highlights five family‑friendly escapes within a few hours of Santiago, reiterating the appeal of Parque Tricao, the Cascada de las Ánimas mountain waterfall, and the mineral‑rich Termas Valle de Colina in the Cajón del Maipo. These destinations combine outdoor recreation, cultural experiences and affordable pricing, reflecting the evolving preferences of Chilean vacationers this winter.
