Chilean authorities detain drivers for drug and alcohol impairment during holiday inspections
Authorities in Chile have increased road safety inspections during the Fiestas Patrias celebrations, resulting in several arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
In Temuco, a night operation under the ‘Tolerancia Cero’ program led to the detention of two drivers. One individual tested positive for both alcohol and cocaine, while the second was detained for driving while intoxicated. The operation also resulted in 15 various traffic violations, including drivers lacking required vehicle documentation.
In Algarrobo, a minibus driver was arrested after testing positive for cocaine during a preventive roadside check. The inspection was part of a coordinated effort between Carabineros, SENDA Previene, and municipal security to manage increased vehicle movement and ensure safety during the holiday period.
