Chilean authorities intensify roadside inspections to prevent fruit fly spread

The Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) and Carabineros de Chile have intensified roadside inspections in Poconchile to prevent the spread of the fruit fly. These operations aim to monitor the transport of agricultural products and detect the clandestine entry of fruits and vegetables that could carry the pest from controlled areas.

Regional Agriculture Seremi Christopher Pizarro Schmauck stated that the objective is to strengthen the timely detection of products that do not meet transport requirements to safeguard regional agricultural activity. SAG regional director Álvaro Alegría Matus emphasized that these inspections are a vital tool for maintaining the region's phytosanitary status.

Authorities have called on merchants, transporters, and the general public to comply with all control measures and ensure that no agricultural products are moved without the necessary documentation and proper authorization.
