Chilean authorities seize smuggled cigarettes and undeclared cash

Chilean authorities have conducted two significant seizures involving contraband and undeclared currency. In Conchalí, Carabineros seized approximately 40,000 packs of smuggled cigarettes valued at roughly 100 million pesos. The operation, led by the Police Investigations Section (SIP), identified a storage center used to distribute illicit goods throughout the Santiago Metropolitan Region. Four Chilean nationals were detained and face investigation for smuggling and customs receiving.

Separately, at the Chungará border complex, customs officials in Arica detected over US$63,000 in undeclared cash hidden among the luggage of three female bus passengers attempting to enter Chile. The three women were formalized in the Arica Guarantee Court and placed under monthly reporting requirements while a 70-day investigation is conducted to determine the origin of the funds.
