Overview

Authorities in Chile have conducted several operations targeting smuggling and contraband. In the Valparaíso region, a two-year investigation led to the arrest of a family clan in Viña del Mar for cigarette smuggling, money laundering, and criminal association. The operation resulted in the seizure of firearms, ammunition, vehicles, and cash valued at approximately $140 million CLP.

Subsequent enforcement actions included the seizure of roughly 40,000 packs of smuggled cigarettes in Conchalí, valued at 100 million pesos, which were being distributed from a storage center in the Santiago Metropolitan Region. Additionally, at the Chungará border complex, customs officials intercepted over US$63,000 in undeclared cash hidden in the luggage of three passengers entering the country.
