Chilean Brigadistas Deliver Medical Aid to Cuba for Fidel Castro Centennial

A delegation of 82 Chilean volunteers, organized by the Brigada Internacionalista Gladys Marín and led by Gladys Acosta, traveled to Cuba to mark the centenary of Fidel Castro. The group, comprising members of the Communist Party, solidarity movements, and medical graduates from the Latin American School of Medicine, brought medicines, supplies and an ultrasound machine to be distributed to hospitals in Havana and Manzanillo, including Salvador Allende Hospital and Celia Sánchez Manduley Hospital. The volunteers also plan to deliver school supplies and food to local schools and gardens, and will attend a series of cultural and historical events commemorating Castro’s legacy.

The mission underscores the longstanding ties between Chilean left‑wing groups and Cuba, recalling past Cuban support for Chile during the Unidad Popular era and the training of Chilean doctors at ELAM.
