Fidel Castro centenary commemorations in Cuba

Overview

Commemorations for the centenary of Fidel Castro have involved both international solidarity efforts and domestic recognition of Cuban healthcare workers.

In early August, a delegation of 82 Chilean volunteers from the Brigada Internacionalista Gladys Marín traveled to Cuba. The group delivered medicines, supplies, and an ultrasound machine to hospitals in Havana and Manzanillo, while also planning to provide school supplies and food to local institutions.

Following these international contributions, healthcare professionals in Las Tunas and Camagüey were honored during ceremonies tied to the centenary celebrations. In Las Tunas, medical workers received the ‘Jóvenes del Centenario’ distinction and specialist titles. In Camagüey, the Ministry of Public Health presented the ‘Manuel Piti Fajardo’ award for long-term service, recognized scientific research, and awarded the ‘Internationalist Worker Medal’ to 15 professionals who have provided medical services in 34 countries.
