Chilean Chamber of Construction calls for investment to boost employment
The Chilean Chamber of Construction (CChC) is calling for accelerated measures to boost investment and recover employment within the construction sector. According to the MACh 70 report, the industry faces a divided landscape: while productive infrastructure—driven largely by mining and energy projects—shows significant dynamism, public investment is experiencing a contraction.
Private housing continues to show signs of weakness, contributing to a shortfall in job creation. As of June, the sector had 712,000 workers, leaving an estimated gap of 198,000 potential jobs. CChC President Alfredo Echavarría noted that the challenge lies in accelerating the materialization of existing projects to mobilize investment and activate productive chains across the country without requiring excessive fiscal effort.
Looking toward 2026, the CChC projects that total infrastructure investment will grow by 4.7% annually. This is expected to be fueled by a 15.5% increase in productive infrastructure investment, even as public infrastructure investment is projected to fall by 10.1% annually.
