Chilean Chamber of Deputies approves preventive license suspensions

The Chilean Chamber of Deputies has approved a bill that expands the preventive suspension of driver's licenses to include all serious traffic offenses during criminal investigations. Currently, such precautionary measures are only permitted in cases involving alcohol or drug use.

Deputy Javier Muñoz (DC) supported the measure, stating that the goal is to remove dangerous drivers from the streets immediately to prevent tragedies while legal proceedings are ongoing. He emphasized that future sanctions alone are insufficient to protect the lives of pedestrians, cyclists, and families during the investigative process.
