Chilean families receive certification for adoption and foster care

Twenty-six families have received certification of suitability for adoption and foster care during a ceremony held at Universidad Andrés Bello (UNAB). The certification recognizes their preparation to provide care, protection, and integral development for children and adolescents.

Carolina López Cancino, acting Regional Director of the Servicio de Protección Especializada a la Niñez y Adolescencia, highlighted the importance of these families within the framework of the ‘Plan Crecer en Familia’. This initiative aims to ensure that no child under the age of four lives in residential facilities. Currently, there are 700 children in alternative care, including 41 children under four years old who require foster families.

The event also featured insights from the UNAB Clinical Care Center for Rehabilitation Sciences regarding the impact of significant relationships on child development, including a lecture on how conversational interactions influence brain and language development in early childhood.
