Chilean child foster care and adoption initiatives

Overview

In Chile, the Specialized Protection Service for Children and Adolescents is expanding its foster care and adoption initiatives through the ‘Plan Crecer en Familia’. This program aims to ensure children under the age of four do not live in residential facilities.

Initial efforts included a certification ceremony at Universidad Andrés Bello, where twenty-six families were recognized for their suitability to provide care and protection for children. Following this, community awareness efforts moved to Iquique, where a public parade was held to promote foster family programs. This event resulted in ten new families registering interest in the evaluation process to become foster parents.
