Chilean Fiestas Patrias: Health warnings and dining options
As Chile approaches the Fiestas Patrias celebrations, discussions regarding food consumption and dining options have emerged. A meta-analysis published in the scientific journal Heart, involving over 562,000 participants, has highlighted the cardiovascular risks associated with frequent fried food consumption. The study found that higher intake is linked to a 28% increased risk of major cardiovascular events, a 22% higher risk of coronary disease, and a 37% higher risk of heart failure. Researchers noted that these findings relate to habitual dietary patterns rather than isolated instances of consumption.
In Santiago, various dining alternatives are available for those celebrating the national holidays. Restaurants such as Valerio Parrilladas Tenedor Libre in Ñuñoa and Vaca & Vaco in Maipú offer all-you-can-eat formats featuring grilled meats and diverse side dishes, providing an alternative to traditional home-cooked barbecues.
